The Best Non-Dairy Ice Cream Yet

by ALEXA

With more and more non dairy ice cream offerings in the frozen section, you have to wonder could this be the best non-dairy ice cream yet? My vote is absolutely yes.

So Delicious® Saves Spring Break

Last week was Spring Break in these parts. Back in January I dreamt of a Spring Break soaking up the sun in Cancun and watching my boys frolic in the sea.

But my gut knew better than to plan a trip like that for Spring Break. And my gut served me well … because this is how the real Spring Break played out;

The first night was spent in the ER with Little Man.

At 3:00 am on the second day of Spring Break we moved into a comfy hospital room (kinda sorta like a Cancun all-inclusive … we were doted on and it included room service, albeit with a real sucky menu).

On the third day we headed home with oxygen in tow.

For the rest of Spring Break we monitored O2 levels and respiration rates.

After a week of sleepless nights, Dad and Mom got brutal head colds.

Woot! I know you’re begging for more! But I will spare you. I’m just so grateful that we all recovered and hope that Little Man never gets a nasty virus like that again!

The entire Spring Break week was shaping up to be a real downer. By mid-week this family was needing some serious happy joy joy to get us through.

On the fifth day of Spring Break the UPS man pulled into our culdesac, came to a screeching halt in front of our house and deposited five flavors of new So Delicious® Dairy Free cashew frozen desserts.

And just like that, So Delicious Dairy Free saved Spring Break.

Within minutes we had ripped open the box and sampled each flavor. They were heavenly! Seriously folks, this is the best dairy-free ice cream EVER. And as my friend Christy put it, it is the first non-dairy ice cream that doesn’t taste like cardboard. It beats every almond and coconut variety out there by a landslide.

So Delicious® Cashew Milk Frozen Desserts

So Delicious® Dairy Free is in the midst of launching their most decadent dessert yet—a line of soy-free, gluten-free, and Non-GMO Project Verified, and carrageenan-free cashew milk frozen desserts. The first five flavors to market are the craziest good dairy-free ice cream I have ever tasted. Not only is this stuff rich and delicious, it’s creamier than any other non-dairy ice cream out there. Between “ooo’s” and “aaah’s,” here’s what our family and friends had to say about each flavor and why I like it:

Creamy Cashew: Little Man’s favorite. I say it has caramel or butterscotch undertones. Sugar wise it comes in at 17 grams per 1/2 cup. In my book that’s a lot of sugar—about par with Haagen Dazs (dairy-full) Vanilla with its 19 grams of sugar per 1/2 cup. But as an occasional treat, I won’t sweat it. Creamy Cashew appears to be the base of all the other flavors. To give you an idea of what’s in these frozen desserts, here are the ingredients in Creamy Cashew: CASHEW MILK (WATER, CASHEWS, NON-GMO CANOLA OIL), ORGANIC DRIED CANE SYRUP, SEA SALT, FAIR TRADE VANILLA EXTRACT, GUM ACACIA, GUAR GUM.

Salted Caramel Cluster: Big Brother and Hubby’s favorite. Divinely sweet and salty. Marbling of dairy-free caramel and chunks of chocolate-covered cashews and cashew pieces add a surprise to every bite. 18 grams of sugar per 1/2 cup.

Snickerdoodle: My second favorite. A little on the sweet side. Definitely tasted like snickerdoodles with that hallmark sugar crystal “crunch.” LIFE® cereal came to mind, too—that addicting sugary cinnamon flavor. 20 grams of sugar per 1/2 cup.

Dark Chocolate Truffle: My friend Christy’s favorite. Quite dense which made the mouthfeel a bit less creamy than the others. We liked the use of organic fair trade cocoa and dairy-free, soy-free chocolate shavings. 18 grams of sugar per 1/2 cup.

Cappucino: My favorite! One of my most loved treats when I go home to Hawaii is Mud Pie at the Kona Inn. THIS ice cream tasted just like the coffee ice cream in that Mud Pie. I just may have to recreate it and make it gluten-free and dairy-free with So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Cappuccino Frozen Dessert! 17 grams of sugar per 1/2 cup.

Need more convincing? I had to agree with what my friend Alisa of Go Dairy Free who said in her review of these frozen desserts:

At long last, the holy grail of dairy-free ice cream has arrived. My taste buds are doing a happy dance … and I better get my body boogieing, too, in anticipation of how many pints of this cashew milk ice cream that I’ll probably consume this year.”

Thank you So Delicious® Dairy Free!

I definitely owe a huge, HUGE thank you to So Delicious Dairy Free for delivering ice cream samples to our door in the midst of our sickness and misery. I give this stuff 5-stars and will make it my go-to store bought ice cream.

Is there room for improvement? Maybe one little thing. I’d love to see the canola oil replaced with a better option. For us ice cream is an occasional treat and so the canola and the few other ingredients we do not use/consume often are not deal breakers for me.

So Delicious Dairy Free Cashew Milk Frozen Desserts are rolling out nationwide as I type this, so if it’s not on the shelf of your store that carries So Delicious Dairy Free products, be patient. It’s coming and it’s worth the wait!

Outstanding review, Lexie! I need to do one because although I wasn’t in crisis mode like you all were when my ice cream arrived from So Delicious, it still felt like they’d saved the day! So sorry about Little Man’s ER visit (we had a good number of those back in the day), but glad everyone is fine now! I agree this ice cream is outstanding, but it’s so interesting to see everyone’s favorites. My #1 was Salted Caramel Cluster and #2 was a tie between Cappuccino and Creamy Cashew. 🙂

Happy Easter to you all!
xo,
Shirley

You already know that I am a HUGE fan of this stuff, too! But, unlike you, not a coffee fan. I agree with your guys on flavors 🙂
