No gluten? No dairy? No worries. This Gluten Free Dairy Free Green Bean Casserole is just as good as the one you grew up enjoying—maybe even better.
Company is coming to town next week and meal planning is in full swing. I spent the morning cooking up sausage and bacon bits for this veggie (but oh so meaty) side dish.
I’ve tested the cover recipe of the latest issue of Saveur and will certainly be including almond frangipane in the dessert line-up.
As for the rest of the Thanksgiving meal, we’re going classic all the way. That means front and center you’ll find this Gluten Free Dairy Free Green Bean Casserole on our table.
When you don’t do gluten or dairy, those handy condensed cream soups and French’s French Fried Onions are off limits. Thankfully this Gluten Free Dairy Free Green Bean Casserole can be made with the Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (nut-free) you find in my cookbook, Everyday Classics or my new Ultra-Creamy Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup recipe (not nut-free). As for the French Fried Onions—I’ve got you covered there, too. Just make up a batch of these Gluten Free Dairy Free French Fried Onions. Yes, this dish is made with love and from scratch, but isn’t that always better that way?

This casserole really looks delicious. It’s a new spin to an old favorite. Thanks for sharing it!
We never served green bean casserole in my family, so I’ve never had it….even before allergies!
Maybe this is the year to try it.
That topping looks so crunchy, I bet it is great on the green beans!
I haven’t ever had green bean casserole! I think it may be a regional thing (I’m in Canada). Regardless, this looks SO good, and I love that it’s dairy-free/vegan!
Maybe next Thanksgiving Canada side 🙂
This looks incredible! The perfect Thanksgiving side, and I bet no one can guess it’s gluten free!
I bet that can’t either 🙂
Yay for gluten free and dairy free. I want this at my thanksgiving table this week!
This sounds great! I am now dairy free, so this is so helpful for the holiday season! Beautiful photos!
This casserole looks so spot on Alexa. There’s no reason to miss gluten or dairy with sides like this!
What a great allergen friendly alternative to the usual. I’ve always loved green bean casserole! Thank you for sharing.
This is one of my husbands favorite holiday dishes, so I love that I can still make it taste the way he remembers but gluten free! Great idea
I’ve been looking forward to a good green bean casserole all week! Thank you!
Keep in mind you have to use a gluten free cream of mushroom soup, normal kind has wheat flour in the ingredients.
Alexandra, Yes! Thank you for the catch. I realized I did not have the link in the recipe to my gluten free dairy free condensed cream of mushroom soup. Thanks for the heads up.:) It is fixed now.
Can you mix this together and freeze (without the fried onions) and then add the onions on the day it is to be baked?
Hi Margarete … good on you for planning/doing ahead. I’m trying to get ahead of the game, too. I think that definitely the green bean mixture could be frozen in the baking dish (without the onions to prevent soggy onions). Maybe give it a little thaw or time on the counter before baking? Enjoy!!

I’d like to make this ahead of time to take to my mom and freeze for Thanksgiving too. So make the green been mixture and freeze that part separately. Could I make the onions and freeze those in their own container to sprinkle on before baking or am I just better off making the onions fresh?

Is there an alternative to the soy sauce? We’re also soy free (top 8 plus) in my household 🙁 but I really want to try to make a greenbean caserole recipe.
Coconut aminos would work great!
